Meet Your Facilitators

Cecily Milne

There is nothing that brings me more satisfaction than bringing people back to life through movement.

When we learn to tap into the therapeutic power of physical practice, we arm ourselves with a tool that no one can take from us—a tool that builds strength and mobility while diminishing pain and structural imbalances.

My teaching is known for blending simplicity with substance. We’ll introduce effort into areas of your body you may have never accessed before using movements that are simultaneously accessible and challenging.

Even the most advanced practitioner can have a humbling (and rewarding!) experience when we move with intentional specificity.

I look forward to sharing many “ah-ha” moments with you during this training.

Drew Hume

The human body is a fascinating organism, and I’ve dedicated my career to working with it through movement and manual therapies.

One of the things I hope to share with you in this intensive is that the devil is in the details - the slight edit to a foot or hand position, or your centre of mass in movement practices; the millimetre shift in manual therapy. It’s this level of precision and intentionality that can take your movement practice, your teaching, and your self-applied manual release into the realms of real therapy.

Therapy isn’t inherent in these practices - it’s only through the details that we can extract it. Come along down this rabbit hole with me and Cecily - you won’t be disappointed! See you in the intensive.

If you’ve ever experienced a roadblock in your practice, or struggled to support your students when they confront roadblocks of their own, this is the training for you.

Program Overview

Exploring Barriers to Movement

  • Lack of flexibility: what causes it and what to do about it using a nervous-system-centered approach

  • Adhesions and trigger points: how to identify and confront pain and immobility to enhance overall motion and movement patterns

  • Scar tissue and injuries: learn to tap into the body’s history and communicate with it using therapeutic touch

Woven throughout these conversations will be elements of pain science, injury mitigation, and self-release work.

Understanding Movement through a Therapeutic Lens

  • Demystify movement terminology (flexion, extension, etc.) to uncover more clarity around how the body moves

  • Unpack the relationship between “position” and “effort” to bring more control and intentionality into every pose and movement

  • Learn to deconstruct complex shapes and poses so that—no matter the movement—you can guide others toward the best experience they’ve ever had in their practice

  • Learn to identify and teach the exact movements that will help your students overcome barriers to progress

  • Gain the confidence to solve movement challenges through introspection, exploration, and experimentation

The training is at 75% capacity.

 FAQs

  • We’ll be training at The Yoga Studio, located at 37776 2nd Ave, Squamish BC (above Cliffside Cider). The studio is close to restaurants and cafés that you’re welcome to take advantage of during our daily lunch breaks.

  • The closest hotel to the studio is the Howe Sound Inn. If you prefer to use Airbnb, look for an option in downtown Squamish to walk to and from the studio. If you stay elsewhere, you’ll need to rely on public transport (bus) to get around.

  • You have a few choices, if you don’t plan to rent a car.

    1. Skylinx YVR - Bus departing from YVR, travelling to Squamish with drop-off at The Adventure Center. Check this example schedule for travel on Thursday May 1.

    2. The Squamish Connector - This option requires taking the train from the airport to Waterfront station, in Vancouver. The bus departs from Waterfront at these times. Drop-off at the Chieftain Centre will get you closest to downtown.

If your scheduled flight arrival doesn’t line up with the bus departures, or you prefer a more private option, Uber will bring you to Squamish. Depending on the time of day, the cost could be $125-$200 one way. To split the cost with other travellers, join the Whatsapp group for our training weekend.

  • This intensive is meant for yoga teachers, movement educators and dedicated students. Those with a background in manual therapy are also welcome.

  • We’ll meet from 9am-4pm each day, with an hour lunch break from 12-1pm.

  • Our training days begin at 9am and finish at 4pm. If you plan to stay downtown, walks in the Estuary or along the waterfront would be a great way to start or end the day outside.

If time allows, we may coordinate a group hike and carpool amongst those who are local and have access to a vehicle.

If you’re able to spend a few days in or around Squamish before or after the training, the Sea to Sky has heaps to offer. Visit Whistler, ride the Sea to Sky Gondola, or hop on a ferry at Horseshoe Bay for a day trip to Bowen Island. The options are truly endless.

  • Your guess is as good as anyone’s 😉. May is a beautiful time of year—green is exploding everywhere! But in this part of the country, you can get all 4 seasons in one weekend so it’s best to pack accordingly with at least a trusty raincoat. Check the weather closer to the date to see if you’ll need a hat and mitts, or shorts and sandals…it could go either way!

  • Refunds, minus a $35 admin fee, will be processed for cancellations received with 30-days notice or more before the event.

Cancellations received within 30 days of the event will not receive a refund, but may be credited toward a future training.

“Learning from Cecily and Drew—together, in the same place—is a dream come true. I’ve gained so much from each of them online, independently. I can only imagine the magic of what’s to come when we’re all in the same place.”
